A black-capped chickadee forages for seeds on a bed of moss in the forest.
A dark-eyed junco perches on the edge of a tree snag in the forest. This was a perfect vantage point to see everything on the forest floor.

On a misty foggy day, I found a small flock of eastern bluebirds foraging in the forest. One perched on a winterberry bush that still had some bright red berries on it. The bluebird sat there for a minute before flying off looking for food.
A chipping sparrow perches on some dried stalks in the middle of a large field. These dried stalks provide valuable food for these birds in the winter.
A tufted titmouse perches on a stick at sunset. This photo was taken in my backyard on a tree stand that I have set up near my feeders. Backyard set ups allow for some unique and close up shots that are sometimes not possible out in the forest.

A winter wren perches and calls from a log on the forest floor. These little birds live in dense forest in areas of downed trees and shrubs. I often find them around the edges of streams and ponds where trees have fallen over the water.
An Eastern Towhee calls from a sumac tree in the spring. These birds are typically found on the forest floor foraging, but during mating season, they go up to the tops of shrubs and small trees to sing.
A Louisiana Waterthrush brings an insect back to its nest. These birds are actually a warbler and they can be found around clean running streams. This birds has its nest in the uprooted root system of a tree that fell over the stream.
A black capped forages for dried seeds along the Farmington River. This bird was part of a mixed flock of warblers and sparrows that were foraging along the side of a river trail.
A song sparrow finds a perfect spot to hide in a field. The streaking on the birds chest provide for great camouflage for the bird.
On a hike in a foggy forest, I heard the calls of a Carolina wren. I was able to locate not one but two of them perched and calling on a stump of a tree.
A female common yellow throat perches on a stick. This little bird was located in a shrubby section immediately at the edge of a sandy beach. This provided perfect habitat for it to live in.
