The Future of my YouTube Channel…

It has been over three months since my last video was published on YouTube.  In my last video I was out on the Connecticut shoreline with my then ten-month-old photographing a little spotted sandpiper foraging along the rocks.  Now I have a one-year-old who is walking all over the place!  It is amazing how time flies.  This post, and my recent YouTube video are geared towards providing you an update with what I have been working on and some exciting new updates to my channel in the coming year.  I am excited at what is to come in my future videos, and I am glad to have you along for the journey.

The summer and fall months have flown by.  Working on long term projects spanning multiple seasons always makes time seem to be irrelevant with one day melting into the next.  Nature doesn’t take a day off however, and soon the summer birds started to move south, and the greens of the forest started to change to the oranges and yellows of Fall.  If you have ever had the chance to visit one location multiple times in a season and then across multiple seasons, you know how the changing seasons can make one location take on new life.  Maybe different species that were not present during one season are now suddenly abundant, or the light now falls through the open canopy differently allowing for the possibility of different photos.  I was fortunate enough to able to witness this these past months and document it.

This time away from YouTube has allowed for my creative energy to ignite once again, which honestly had been burnt out earlier in the year.  I am excited to share some new directions and concepts that I will be producing in the coming year.  My new concepts are below!

New Directions with my YouTube Channel

I will be producing videos that fit into four general categories (Gear, Tips and Techniques, Wildlife Photography Vlog, and a Habitat Series).

Gear:

This series will feature short videos talking about the different gear that I use and why I use it. I have had the opportunity to use a lot of different gear over the past three years, and I plan to share real word experiences with what I use and anything I have discovered along the way.  I am not very gentle on my gear, and some have stood up better than others in the field.

Tips and Techniques:

This series will include a multitude of topics ranging from tips for camera settings all the way to being able to read signs in nature.  Wildlife photography is often a lot more than just going out with your camera looking for animals.  This series will focus on the topics that go into getting the shot behind the scenes and tips to help you get the shot when the opportunity presents itself.

Wildlife Photography Vlog:

This series will be similar to the videos I had been producing previously.  One HUGE change coming with future videos is the amount of information packed into these videos.  My plan moving forward is to make these videos have more value for you as the viewer.  I am going to be adding more educational and beneficial information about the habitat and the species being photographed.  It is my goal to allow you to walk away from these videos not only appreciating nature and enjoying some nice images and videos but also having learned something either about the habitat I was in, the species being photographed, or some tips or techniques that I used to get the images.

Habitat Series:

This is going to be a completely new concept and series I will be creating, and I am really excited to begin this project heading into the new year.  My goal is to make these more of a documentary style of videos bringing in my education in wildlife sciences and ecology combined with my photography to create immersive videos through different habitats.  Connecticut is rich with different habitats across the state, and I will be heading to different habitats through the seasons and documenting the different aspects of the habitats that make them unique.  Along the way I will be discussing the different ecological factors that are occurring in the ecosystem and touching on the different animals and plants that can be found making the habitat unique.

Frequency of Videos:

In the past I had been releasing videos pretty consistently once a week.  It is my goal to be able to get back up to that frequency, however with more information being packed into each new video, the frequency of published videos may be a little slower.  It is my goal to make my videos more value packed for you, and because of that the time required for getting the right content and editing will likely take longer.  I will likely be publishing videos from the four different categories above at different points through the month to add variety to the videos. But I hope you’ll be patient with me and stick around! If these concepts sound as exciting for you as they do to me, make sure you subscribe to my channel so you’ll be updated when a new video is released.

Next Video:

Stay tuned for the next video: “Searching for a Rare Woodpecker” which will be released 12/27/24. This will be my first new video in the Wildlife Photography Vlog series where I head out to find and photograph a small family group of Red-headed Woodpeckers.  See you then!
